Life these days come to standstill without internet. If it goes down for even 10 minutes it feels like a fish out of water. Don't panic. Sometimes it can be fixed without even calling your service provider.
Why does your internet fail?
a) The connection to your service provider which is called the WAN connection is down.
b) Your modem is not working as expected or broken.
c) Problem with your PC or lablet
When your internet connection is working fine then you see a computer screen with globe on bottom right part of your screen or your wife bar shows internet access when you hover the mouse on it. If you are not seeing the globe then your internet is down.
Also, when you open your control panel-network and sharing center you see the below screen with the green connection with your PC and WLAN and another green line from WLAN to Internet.
When connection is broken the links shown in the screen is broken. If the link between your computer is WLAN is broken then link from your computer to router is broken. If the link between WLAN and Internet is broken then the link to your service provider is broken.
What can you do to bring your internet up?
1) Sometimes just reboot your modem. This fixes internet problem most of the time.
2) If the above step fails, then check the connection cable between your pc to router. If the cable is connected properly, check the light on the router for the port to which the cable is connected. If it is green then the cable is connected properly. If you are using wifi check if the signal strenght is good. If signal strength is not good then move closer to router so that pc/tablet can pick the signal.
3) Reset the modem. Most of the modems can be reset by pressing a button on the router or by logging into the modem from your computer.
4) If reset does not help check If the link between your WLAN and Internet is broken. If it is broken then you might have to call the internet service provider. The service provider will ask you to check for all the green lights on your router. In most of the cases, the service provider should be able to fix the connection. In some cases, the modem might have to be replaced.
